PROJECTS

Research and Development projects during 2010-2019.

LUCC

Model is developed in Repast Symphony, a cross platform Java-based modeling system. Its task is to model land use in the certain area, at a certain period of time. The model then returns land use maps. It stores a map about every modeling cycle (iteration). At the beginning of modeling process the user defines the amount of cycles. One modeling cycle processes every cell (agent) and applies the land use type changes if necessary.

At the beginning of modeling process, model downloads a map from Geoserver. Then the map is transformed into grid of agents, where each agent represents 100 x100 m area together with land use type class. Modeling process is divided into cycles on purpose. One cycle involves processing of all agents and change of land use if necessary.

FP7 FUPOL (2011-2015)

Between 2011 and 2015 a team of political experts, simulation and computer scientists developed advanced ICT tools to support policy design and implementation.  FUPOL was funded under the 7th framework program of the European Commission and undertaken by a consortium of 17 partners from Europe and China. Initially it was focused on local authorities and urban policy domains, but the technologies and innovations developed were generic and could be used on any level and for any policy domain.

SUSTAINABILITY ASSESSMENT

Technology is one of the pillars of today's society, so it's important to predict which technologies will be accepted in society, which will be sustainable and in which of them it is worthwhile to invest. There are yet few validated methodologies that allows to predict the credible sustainability forecast of a new or existing technology. The asset of new approach Integrated Acceptance and Sustainability Assessment Model (IASAM) is based on Skype reference line and systems dynamics simulation. IASAM is storefront of integrity level of social and engineering factors, which are important to evaluate potential acceptance and sustainability of either existing technology or new one. The sustainability is measured in skypes.

VeloRouter - DUAL USE SIMULATOR

Multi-agent based bicycle path network designing and exploitation simulator VeloRouter has dual applicability as it provides results for both audiences: municipalities and cyclists. By using VeloRouter municipalities could determine the eventually most popular routes, as well as receive feedback from cyclists about the quality of paths. In turn, cyclists could find out the potential occupancy of the route on the preferred day. To generate data on each route’s usage, the system uses agent-based simulation model in Repast environment and Ingres database storing data about routes use and cyclists intentions.

FLAG-ERA FuturICT 2.0 (2017-2020)

From financial crises to climate change, from crime and conflict to resource management: the world is currently facing grand social challenges that need to be addressed with new approaches and tools. FuturICT 2.0 aims to create an incentive system to take on some of the major challenges faced by modern society. FuturICT 2.0 brings together a large array of the best academic minds in fields such as social science, complexity science and computational science. With jointly-supervised STIMUL research projects, traditional workshops, exchanges, and meetings, the project will bring together the latest, bleeding-edge knowledge in areas such as big data, artificial intelligence, agent-based simulation, the Internet of Things, blockchain technology, and complexity science. Creating and reinforcing synergies between ICT and the Social Sciences: this is the first challenge of the FuturICT 2.0 project.

LATVIA ANIMAL AND HERD REGISTER

Holder of the Data – Latvian State Agricultural Data Centre, established in 1997 to aggregate, process and analyze zootechnical, veterinarian and agricultural information in compliance with international requirements. Software is developed from 1998 and comprises 36 subsystems and hundreds of modules. Local access is granted for more than 100+ associates, but external segment involves more than 25000 users. Main functionality involves: Animal, herd and holding registration; Animal identification; Pig, sheep, goat, horse and dogs registration; Maintaining and processing of milk recording results and milk producers register; Monitoring of milk quota; Pedigree information processing; Estimation of animal breeding value; Veterinary information processing and epizootic situation monitoring; Preparing and providing information for other information systems.
